A governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu has congratulated world heavyweight boxer, Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua over his recent victory against his opponent, Carlos Takam.
Adebutu, who is representing Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North, Ogun State in the Federal House of Representatives, described the victory of Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Joshua as well deserved. Anthony Joshua hails from Shagamu area of Ogun State.
The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated in a statement made available to the media from his Media Office, that Nigeria and Nigerians are indeed great and that the nation is coming out of its numerous challenges very soon.
It will be recalled that Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua retained his two heavyweight title belts recently, when he defeated his opponent, Carlos Takam in the tenth round.
World champion Joshua, before 76,600 spectators in Cardiff, technically knocked out a resilient Takam in the 10th round of the bout to retain his title, bringing his career record to 20 victories in 20 fights.
Joshua had thrown everything at the super-sub with the tank-like physique and granite chin, but he was beginning to tire when Edwards stepped in to bring the fight to a close, much to Takam’s fury.
At the end of it all the young man, who is fast becoming a superstar now, has a record which reads: 20 fights, 20 stoppages.
Adebutu said in the statement: “It gladdens my heart that Joshua, who happens to be my constituent, won this championship in my time. We are proud that the people of Ogun State are excelling both at home and abroad and I have no doubt that this is just the beginning of many good things that would come the way of our people.
“Joshua has proven that Nigerians can excel despite all odds and that with tenacity of purpose and determination one can achieve his desired aim and purpose in life.”
The grassroots politician and man of the people was further quoted to have said in the statement that the entire people of Shagamu and Remo generally are proud of the superstar and that plans were underway to honour him for doing the state and the nation proud.
Adebutu, who has achieved much for his people since he got to the National Assembly, was quoted to have promised to do all within his power to encourage sports loving persons and youths in Ogun State to pursue their career and excel in their chosen field as governor, adding that the best is yet to come from the state.
According to him, “Ogun State has the potentials of producing more sports men and women if led by the right person as Governor. I believe that we have all the talents and opportunities to make things happen in the state in sports, education, science, politics and other spheres of life.
“Our government will put everything in place to make sports more attractive, especially to the youth with a model like Anthony Joshua and we will be committed to everything that would gladden the hearts of our people.”
While congratulating Joshua further, Adebutu stressed that the victory is a product of hardwork and commitment of Joshua coupled with the grace of God, and that the celebrated boxer is a sportsman that has proven that great things could come out of Nigeria despite her political and economic challenges.
He added in the statement that the whole world appreciates the efforts of the boxer and that he should not relent in his efforts of promoting boxing as one of the sports to reckon with all over the world.
According to him the likes of Mohammed Ali and Mike Tyson did their best for boxing, but that young men like Joshua have a duty of keeping the hope of the sport alive and that he has the potentials of achieving more laurels in the nearest future.
“We are proud of you, we rejoice with you. You deserve this victory. Ogun State and Nigeria would continue to celebrate you. You have done well and we believe that even the sky cannot limit you with the way you are going,” Adebutu was quoted to have said in the statement, while praying that God would continue to guide and guard Joshua in his future endeavours.
