The Police at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos have arraigned a 70-year old man, Shakin Oworu and her daughter, Endurance Oworu for allegedly stealing the sum of N200m from the management of Universal Hair Care Limited and used the money to acquired movable and inmovable properties in Lagos State.
Also arraigned with them for the same alleged offence was one Nasir Ismaila.
While Shakin Oworu was present in Court, Endurance Oworu and Nasir Ismaila were said to be at large.
The arrest of the accused persons was ordered by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in-charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, Adamu Ibrahim following a petition by the management of Universal Hair Care Limited.
After investigation by Sgt Akinduli Kehinde and his team, the accused were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a three-count charge of felony to wit.forgery, stealing and receiving stolen properties.
Police prosecutor,DSP Eshiet Eshiet informed the Court in charge No B/66/2017 that the accused persons committed the alleged offence between 2008 and June 2016 at Universal Hair Care Limited located at 25,589 Williams Street, Lagos.
Eshiet told the Court that the accused persons fraudulently stole the sum of N200m from the management of Universal Hair Care Limited and used the money to purchase Landed properties and vehicles.
Eshiet said that the properties the accused persons allegedly bought with the stolen money included a building at 41, Obayan Street, Bariga; landed property at Oko- Oba, Agege; 1, Obadia Street, Bariga; Pharmaceutical and Supermarket Stores with the Name jHealth Pulse at Yaba.
He said that other properties acquired with the stolen money included a Landed property at Ogudu, Toyota Hiace Bus, Hyunda Car with Reg. number KTU 825 AM; Toyota Corolla Car with Reg.No LND 676 AD, Totota Corolla Car with Reg.No LSD 747 DW,Mazda Car with Reg.No APP 491 AD and Suzuki Car with Reg. EPE 362 AA.
Eshiet said that the theft was uncovered when the management of Universal Hair Care Limited audited their account books.
Eshiet said that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411,287(7) and 328 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State,2015.
The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open Court and Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku granted them on bail in the sum of N250,000 each with two surtitles each in like sum.
Botoku adjourned the case till 18 October, 2017 for mention and ordered that the Oworu be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when he is able to fulfill the bail conditions.
