It has been described that the extensive improvement in the field of technology and science over the past few decades has made it possible to know the shape of the earth and to know the difference between the earth and the sun which is equivalent to 555556555 which is quite tremendous.
A student from Birmingham City University, England, Aminu Kabir made the statement in a one day seminar organized by the national body of Jema’a Emirate Students Association (JESA), in Kaduna state.
Kabir, stated that technology as the use of knowledge has brought a tremendous development in the society.
“The everyday lives of people have changed a great deal due to the dawn of technology. Our lives have become easier, quicker, and more dynamic and at the same time, our lives have become lethargic, preposterous, and anti-social just at the computers become part and tract of our lives,” he said.
“In pursuit of it cozy comfort; we tend to be over-reliant on it so much that some can’t imagine their lives without it. This pointless obsession and total over reliance has left us exposed and feeble. No doubt, the advancement has brought us unprecedented physical, medical, and other benefits.”
He said that technology has an enormous impact on health sector, socialization and education.
“Despites its potential to enable us to make connection easier and faster, technology has some multifarious effects on social related issues. It pays vital role in the lives of people, although those who don’t use technology tend to focus on its negative perspective such as robbing people their ability to communicate with one another and robbed them their capabilities. It has brought us together in some ways and drifts us apart in others.
“Concerning education, without any modicum of doubt, technology has a significant impact on educational system such as curriculum, instructions, assessments and professional development. It is no longer news that due to the advent of technology, people can now obtain bachelor degree, Msc and even Phd at the comfort of their couch without having to travel out of the shores of their country.
“According to recent US department education study, on average students (in a secondary educational setting) in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face to face instructions.”
In his presentation, Dr. Musayyib Abdulmajid of Kauru General Hospital, Kauru Local Government Area of kaduna state on Drug Abuse, said that it was estimated in 2012-2013 that between 162 and 324 million people globally (3.5 & 7.0 percent of the world population age between 15-64 years) had use an illicit drug at least once in the previous year,” he said, and added that recent estimation shows that about 12.7 million people injects drugs.
He therefore urged the people, especially youths, to shun abusing the drugs for its harmful and dangerous to health.
The JESA president, Khairu Zahraddeen thanked the presenters and the participants, saying that they were organizing the seminar annually for the students of higher institutions in order to counsel them on how to be productive in the society.
