A tricycle operator, Tope Ojolo, who allegedly raped a student of College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the prosecutor, Sgt. Monica Ikebilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.17 in Ikere-Ekiti.
Ikebilo further alleged that the defendant, on the said date, unlawfully raped a student of the College of Education when she boarded the tricycle on her way home from school.
She also said that the defendant robbed his victim of her valuables.
According to her, the offence is punishable under Sections 358 and 402 (1) (a) and (b) of Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor informed the court that she had forwarded the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The plea of the defendant was not taken as his counsel, Mr Timilehin Omotosho, sought for a short adjournment.
The Magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Akosile, consequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice.
Akosile then adjourned the case until Oct. 26 for further hearing.
