A man charged with strangling his ex-girlfriend was found dead in his prison cell today.
John Wright was accused of murdering mum-of-two two Janine Bowater after the 25-year-old’s body was discovered outside a block of garages on Tuesday.
He was due to make his first appearance in court today.
But prosecutor Michael Roques told Reading Crown Court: “Mr Wright died in the early hours of the morning, today. We are calling formal evidence of the death.
“I request that we adjourn the case for a number of days.”
It is understood that the 32-year-old hanged himself.
Pub worker Janine’s body was found on a freezing street in Thatcham, Berks.
A post mortem examination showed that mum-of-two Janine had been strangled.
Wright was arrested at the murder scene in the early hours of the morning and questioned. He was then charged with murder and causing grievous bodily harm.
Wright, of The Hollands, Thatcham, Berks., made no plea when he faced his charge at Reading Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The 32-year-old showed no emotion as he stood in the dock and spoke only to confirm his name and address.
He was remanded in custody at Bullingdon Prison in Bicester, Oxon., where his body was discovered.
