Unknown gunmen riding in a Highlander SUV Tuesday night killed two policemen at Elioparawon Junction of Ada George road in Obio Akpor local area of Rivers State.
Witnesses said the gunmen trailed the policemen in a white salon car to the spot and shot them before they sped off.
Witnesses said the sound of a gunshot caused initial panic among residents and shop owners within the neighborhood. Those who summoned courage to run to the scene of the incident found the two policemen dead while a third was found critically wounded.
Policemen later rushed to the scene and evacuated the corpses of their colleagues and the one with bullet injury.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident, adding that investigation had commenced to arrest the perpetrators.
He also revealed that the Toyota Highlander SUV used by the gunmen had been identified.
“Yes, I am aware of the killing of two police officers around Ada-George, our men have identified the car that was used to carry out the attack. We have deposited the corpses at the mortuary. Investigations have commenced to track down the perpetrators of that evil act against police men who were on duty. We must get them,” he assured.
It would be recalled that a soldier in mufti was shot dead by some policemen attached to Ada George Police Station by Elioparawon axis on the May 17 leading to the sacking of the Ada George Police Station and arrest of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO.
