A 29-year-old man, Amos Sough, was yesterday arraigned in a Karu Magistrate Court in Abuja for allegedly duping a woman of N48,000.
Sough, residing at Karu village in the FCT, is facing a charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation, offences he denied committing.
The prosecutor, Mr Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that one Felicia Dennis of Karu, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Nov. 1.
“According to the complainant, sometime in Dec. 2013, she entrusted the sum of N48,000 to the defendant with the agreement that he should assist her to open an account in a micro-finance bank.
“After entrusting the money to the defendant, he dishonestly converted the whole money to his personal use,” Adeyanju said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Mr Tukur Abba, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 22 for hearing.
