Emerging reports have claimed that the federal operations unit zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday, November 14, intercepted a truck loaded with military wears, arms and ammunition.
Channel TV reports that comptroller federal operations unit, zone C Kayode Olusemire, made this known in Owerri, the Imo state capital.
Olusemire added that the truck, alongside three suspects, were arrested around the Onitsha head bridge in Anambra state based on an intelligence report.
According to him, “There is no way you can see a truck like this and know it is conveying something (a dangerous weapon) like this but with intelligence, we were able to detect it.”
Comptroller Olusemire also displayed another truck seized for conveying foreign rice and other prohibited items.
He warned smugglers and those trading in contraband goods to desist from such activities noting that the Nigeria Customs Service is determined to rid the nation of contraband and illegally imported goods.
Meanwhile, we had reported that following the order given by President Buhari that draconian measures should be taken against illegal smuggling of goods to the country, the NCS said it impounded up to five vehicles conveying contraband worth N50.2 million to the country.
This revelation was made by Peters Olugboyega during a media briefing at the zonal headquarters situated in Bauch. Olugboyega is the the comptroller of Federal Operations Unit, zone D which comprises Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Benue and Nassarawa states.
