It was end of the road for two suspected highway robbers Thursday as police operatives in Ogun State gunned them down after a robbery attack on passengers of a luxury bus along the Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway.
Three pump action rifles, two locally made pistols, machete, charms, cash sums, mobile phones, wristwatches and stolen valuable items were also recovered from them.
The bandits, who were members of a deadly gang, had in the early hours hijacked a luxury bus belonging to Chisco Transport Company marked Lagos AAA 649 XN.
The vehicle, conveying 34 passengers, was said to have been attacked at Area J4 junction in Ogbere, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State on its way to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Some of the victims, who spoke with New Telegraph, said the armed robbers chased them with a bus while another set barricaded the highway.
They shattered the window glass, grounded the vehicle to a halt and began to ransack the terrified passengers.
The bandits, numbering about six, according to eye witnesses, drove the hijacked bus into the bush where they completed their two-hour raid.
