A call has been to the Federal Government about the neglect of the Journalists on the palliatives given to the people to cushion the effect of Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic which has affected all areas of human endeavors necessitated the various palliative measures that Governments at all levels and Nations employed to ameliorate the effects of virus. However, a critical section of the polity, the media, has been left out of these measures.
The call to include the fourth estate of the realm in the palliative and protective measures was made by Mr. Wole Arisekola, President of the Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON). He said that online journalists are also frontline workers and as such must be included in whatever palliative package being rolled out by the Federal Government as well as other bodies.
He noted that the media are also playing a critical and crucial role in the war against the coronavirus pandemic.
“Without the media, especially the online practitioners, no one will even know what is going on, including what those in the medical field are doing”, Arisekola added.
