The embattled governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki has resigned his membership of the All Progressive Congress, APC, the party on whose ticket he became the governor of Edo state in 2016
His membership is coming some days after he was disqualified to contest the July 23, 2020 primaries of the party ahead of the state governorship election scheduled for September
Governor Obaseki was disqualified from contesting in the party’s primaries over irregularities in his National Youths Service Corps certificate, where his name was wrongly spelt as “Obasek” instead of “Obaseki” and other educational related issues.
His disqualification may not be unconnected over a long run political battle with his supposed “godfather” Adams Oshiomhole who he fell apart with late last year over political differences
The former Head of the Edo state economic team under Governor Adams Oshiomhole, is being speculated to join the main opposition party, the PDP, in what many observers have described as a futile attempt to gain the party’s governorship ticket
