Fresh facts have begun emerging on the shocking and sudden demise of Nollywood filmmaker, Chico Ejiro, who died on Christmas day, Friday, December 25, 2020.
YES INTERNATIONAL! Magazine visited his Lekki, Lagos home on Saturday, December 26 for an on-the-spot report.
Encountering some of his friends and colleagues like Fidelis Duker and his wife, Temitope, Obi Osotule, Emeka Ojiego, Segun Arinze, Zik Okafor, Desmond Elliot, Joe Dudun and so on outside, we were first briefed on some of the things that transpired before going inside.
Sitting in the dining section and adorning a black gown, Joy first said to us: ‘Azuh, your friend is gone…My gist partner…Chico is dead…My amebo partner’, shaking her head.
Encouraging her to be strong, especially because of their four children, pulling our seats closer, she narrated how it all happened.
Below, according to what she posted on her own Facebook wall, is a summary of what she told us: ‘This is a rude shock!!!!!!!! We had a lot of plans for Christmas, we spoke a lot about how the day will go, we were recounting how GOD has been good to us this year and how grateful we are to be alive, I never knew it was going to be my last midnight gist with you. You died in my hands Chico, you left me so confused and devastated.
‘In all, I thank GOD for giving me the opportunity to spend the last 26yrs with you, you were a selfless man who was a wonderful husband and a great father.
‘I’m consoled by the beautiful life you lived and the impact you made in the movie industry and all that crossed your path. You will forever be in our hearts. Till we meet again my Baby Boy, I will have plenty gist for you my best friend.’
Additional information at our disposal has it that Chico and Joy were engaged in a discussion till very late in their sitting room, hours before his demise. Chico later left for the bedroom upstairs. Joy joined him after sometime, asked him to go and have his bath. It was on his return, and while sitting down on the bed that he started gasping for breath. And before help could come, he was no more.
We reliably gathered that the renowned filmmaker who is widely known as Mr. Prolific had been battling a medical challenge for some time. His remains have been deposited in the morgue at General Hospital, Broad Street, Lagos and now awaiting burial arrangements. The family and his friends, we were told, are working out the modalities and will be briefing the public at the appropriate time.
