Security footage has been released of the moment a homeowner shot dead two robbers as they tried to enter his home.
The video shows two flashes of light as the unidentified man fires at the two intruders as they make their way inside his garage and allegedly demanded he opened his safe.
Up to ten shots were fired, in total, as the homeowner chased them away. Both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbour Reggie Nicholls, who released the footage, told ABC7: ‘They made him open the safe. After he opened the safe, I guess they weren’t ready for him,’
Police initially arrested the homeowner, of Brentwood, California, but have since released him for acting in self-defence.
The suspects have only been identified as two men in their thirties from Antioch, but are yet to be named.
Brentwood police Lt. Walter O’Grodnick said: ‘The preliminary information shows it to be a home-invasion robbery,’
‘Two suspects. One with a firearm. They presented a threat, and the shooting was prompted in self-defense [sic].’
