The management of the Osun State University, Osogbo, has placed an indefinite suspension on a 100-level student of the institution, Victory Ehiremen, following her arrest by the operatives of the Osun State Police Command in connection with a case of armed robbery in Ikire.
It was earlier reported that Victory and her boyfriend, Ayobami had allegedly lured the victim, said to be based in Lagos State, who she met via WhatsApp to Ikire, Osun State, where he was assaulted and a sum of N1.5 million was transferred from his account.
Victory, when paraded by the State Commissioner of Police, Kehinde Longe, on Wednesday, however, said she only witnessed how her Lagos lover was assaulted, but was unaware that money was transferred from his account.
Addressing journalists on the campus of the university in Osogbo on Thursday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, said the management arrived at the decision after considering the statement written by the suspect and intelligence at its disposal, noting that the institution has a tradition of excellence with many of its old students excelling in their various endeavors.
Adebooye further said, “The case of Ahiante Victory Ehiremen is a shock to us, even as she is in her first year of study. I got a security report on her case, and with the official information available, an allegation of conspiracy and robbery has been established against her by the police authorities.
“Consequently, she is in police custody for further investigations and prosecution. Ahiante Victory Ehiremen’s alleged involvement in a criminal act is in violation of her matriculation oath. She has made a written statement which the University has considered alongside the available intelligence report.
“The University authorities have therefore decided that Ms Ahiante Victory Ehiremen hereby placed on indefinite suspension in line with regulations guiding studentship pending the determination of her case according to the law of the Federation.”
