Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has visited two communities devastated by a deadly military airstrike that claimed at least 10 lives and left several others injured early Wednesday morning.
The military jets, on a mission to target armed criminal groups in the region, mistakenly bombed innocent civilians, leading to the tragic loss of life.
Despite the difficult terrain, Governor Aliyu, accompanied by Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Minister Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, joined residents for the funeral prayers of the victims.
The governor expressed his sorrow over the incident, calling it a regrettable mistake, and assured that a full investigation would be conducted to prevent a recurrence.
“We consider this a mistake, as the military has previously conducted successful operations against criminal groups in the state,” Aliyu stated.
To assist the affected families, the governor announced a ₦20 million donation and 100 bags of assorted foodstuffs.
The state government also pledged to cover medical expenses for the injured.
Governor Aliyu concluded by praying for the souls of the deceased and offering his condolences to the grieving families.
