The operation, which took place in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area on January 27, 2025, was based on actionable intelligence regarding the activities of suspected arms dealers with ties to the Niger Republic.
The troops, acting on the intelligence gathered, carried out a covert operation targeting the suspects.
In a statement released by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre for Operation Fasan Yamma, it was revealed that the suspects attempted to flee when their vehicle was pursued along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road.
Despite their efforts to evade capture by driving into the bush, the troops’ swift tactical response forced them to abandon their vehicle and flee on foot.
A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of a significant arms cache, which included two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.
The discovery has raised concerns about the growing threat posed by armed groups in the region and their links to international arms trafficking.
In addition to the arms seizure, the troops are intensifying their efforts to capture the notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, who remains at large.
Turji, a well-known bandit leader in the region, has managed to evade capture by frequently relocating his hideouts.
