Pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has dissociated itself from the seven-day ultimatum issued by Yoruba cultural activist, Sunday Igboho, asking Fulanis to leave Yoruba land.
Igboho had last week issued the ultimatum after he stormed the Igangan residence of the Seriki Fulani noting that the Yorubas could no more bear being killed in their land by Fulanis.
However speaking with Daily Independent, Afenifere, through Yinka Odumakin, its National Publicity Secretary said even though Igboho never consulted them before taking the action, they have advised to allow the state government handle the matter.
Odumakin said while Igboho can Express his opinions and concerns, he has no authority to issue ultimatum to foreigners to leave Yorubaland.
He also said the Afenifere told Igboho to show respect to constituted authority and stop acting as if he is superior to the Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde.
“No, he did not consult us before issuing the ultimatum but we have told him that he is not a state actor and he cannot act unilaterally”.
“He can express his opinions, concerns as a citizen and we agree with that. But he cannot begin to issue ultimatum for people to quit Yorubaland”.
“We also told him that he cannot act as if he is superior to the governor of Oyo state. We have advised him to mellow down and not to allow any crisis to come out of this” Odumakin said.
