The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of ‘Zone 5’ in Benin City, Mr. Dabal Paul Yakadi, has bowed out of service barely 72 hours to Edo State Governorship election slated for Saturday, Igbere TV reports.
Yakadi, retired on Tuesday after attaining the mandatory age of retirement.
Igbere TV reports that he could not function during the Edo election Stakeholders meeting which was attended by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Adamu Mohammed.
The Zone comprises Edo and Delta States.
The Public Relations Officer of the Zone, DSP Emeka Iheanacho, said this on Wednesday in response to the inquiry by our Correspondent in Edo State.
Iheanacho who did not give details, said, “yes, the AIG has retired. But, does that pose any security threat?”, he asked.
He also disclosed that he does not know, Mr. Yakadi successor.
Recall that the retired AIG had resumed office in the Zone headquarters since Feb 11, 2019.
Prior to his deployment to the Zone, he had held various positions in the Nigeria Police Force which included the Commissioner of Police, Benue Police Command.
