The revival of the airline’s presence in Nigeria is part of a partnership with Nigerian airline XEJet, which is providing technical support and operational aircraft.
Speaking during the inaugural flight ceremony at Lagos Airport on Wednesday, Air Sierra Leone General Manager, Edgard Lacle, expressed enthusiasm about the airline’s return.
“The connection between Sierra Leone and Nigeria is strong, especially in terms of trade, tourism, and cultural ties,” he stated.
The airline will operate three weekly flights between the two cities on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with plans to expand the schedule as passenger demand increases.
The inaugural flight brought 36 passengers to Lagos, marking a promising restart for the carrier.
The partnership with XEJet includes the provision of three operational aircraft tailored to meet the demands of the market.
XEJet’s Chief Executive Officer, Iza Emmanuel, highlighted the significance of the occasion, calling it a “rebirth” for Air Sierra Leone in Nigeria.
“After over 15 years, the Sierra Leonean flag again takes to the skies,” Emmanuel said. “This partnership is a reflection of the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
It also demonstrates our shared vision of growth, connectivity, and opportunity for our people.”
The resumption of flights is expected to bolster trade and tourism between the two nations, providing a convenient link for businesses and travellers in West Africa.
