Anambra Police raid criminal camp in Ogbunka, recover stolen items after intense gun battle, promising continued security dominance
The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has dismantled a criminal hideout in Ogbunka, Orumba South Local Government Area, following a six-hour gun battle with armed criminals.

The operation, which was carried out by a police-led joint security team, was based on sustained intelligence gathering.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the team included personnel from the Nigerian Army’s 302 Artillery Regiment, the Navy, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Anambra State Vigilante Group.
Ikenga disclosed that the operation forced the criminals to flee, with several of them sustaining bullet wounds in the firefight.
“The Joint Security Team, in a six-hour gun battle with the armed criminals, due to its superior firepower, diffused some explosives used as shields on the camp by the hoodlums,” he said.
The team recovered a trove of items from the camp, including foodstuffs, cooking pots, and dismantled parts of suspected stolen vehicles—an indication of ongoing criminal activities in the area.
Photos released by the command showed the extent of materials found at the camp, including relief items likely looted from communities.
The exact number of suspects wounded or apprehended has not been confirmed, but the police noted that efforts are ongoing to track down those who escaped.
Security operatives have since taken over the area to maintain control and prevent any resurgence of criminal activity.
“The operatives have taken over the area to sustain security dominance aimed at addressing any untoward situation that may arise and to possibly arrest the fleeing suspects,” Ikenga added.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, promising residents and indigenes of Anambra that their confidence in the force is not misplaced.
This raid follows a string of recent operations aimed at cracking down on criminal elements across the state, including arrests on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the restructuring of the Criminal Investigation Department by the Commissioner of Police to boost investigative efficiency.
The successful raid in Ogbunka is a clear signal of intensified security efforts and inter-agency cooperation in fighting crime within Anambra State.
