Nsima Ekere, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s gubernatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom, has escaped an assassination attempt on his life.
According to Punch, the incident occurred in the early morning of Wednesday, October 3, in Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.
We gathered that the bullet was fired into Ekere’s upstairs bedroom where his wife and sister were at the time. The candidate, however, was meeting with party leaders in the nearby residence of the managing director of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, Umana Umana.
Ekere rushed back home to the scene of the incident, following a distress call from his wife.
Following the visit of the state commissioner of police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, and some personnel from the police and Department of State Security (DSS), the scene was cordoned off and the expended bullet taken away by security agents.
Ekere described the incident as being very disturbing, coming at the beginning of the electioneering season and shortly after an attack on the residence of former minority leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, following his defection to the ruling party.
He further urged the inspector general of police and the director general of the DSS, to look into the security situation in the state and the attempt on his life.
Meanwhile, we previously reported that one person was killed in Akwa Ibom on Sunday, September 30, over the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
