The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, FESTAC Mega Axis, Lagos State, said no fewer than 280 hoodlums popularly called ‘Area boys’ living in Lagos slums will be reached out to in its upcoming outreach tagged ‘Area boys evangelism’.
The MFM FESTAC Mega Regional Overseer, Irabor Enojiasun, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Enojiasun, the programme is aimed at encouraging young persons to shun the use of alcohol and dangerous substances that can damage their health and destroy society, while encouraging them to embrace a new life with Christ.
He said, “Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, FESTAC Mega Axis is set to give free food items, Bibles and Christian literature to over 280 ‘Area Boys’ and street/homeless children in Ajegunle as part of its food evangelism programme to win their souls for Christ.
“The programme which will take the form of a Carnival Jam is part of the Explosive Evangelism Initiative vision of the MFM General Overseer, Daniel Olukoya, which aims to ensure everyone turns back to God through Christ.
“The ‘Area Boys Evangelism’ is an annual programme of FESTAC Regional Headquarters to ensure youths turn a new leave by abandoning smoking and use of drugs and substances which are injurious to their health and in turn destroying families, government and society at large.”
Also speaking in the statement, the Programme Coordinator, Edward Ilesami, lamented that many of the street boys were lured by peer pressure, bad parenting and hunger into hooliganism. He said the outreach would be held in the Ajegunle area of the state.
“I used to be on the street, smoking different kinds of weeds and roaming about aimlessly without a future until Christ met me and now I am a transformed man of God impacting lives positively. Peer pressure, bad companions, poverty and hunger, bad parenting, as well as bad leadership draw many promising youths to the streets.
“I am delightedly organising the programme as a change agent who once used to live among the ‘Area Boys’, smoking different types of weeds before I gave my life to Jesus Christ. The food evangelism programme will be held at ‘Area Boys” popular base in Ajegunle,” Ilesami said.
