Two governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Professor Ali Pate and Dr Ibrahim Yakubu Lame have rejected the primary election held in the state on Monday.
Addressing journalists at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi, the two aspirants alleged that the exercise was marred by irregularities such as late arrival of electoral committee members that were supposed to be in the state on Sunday to conduct the election, thereby postponing it to Monday.
They also alleged that election materials were also distributed to local governments late evening, ‘making it impossible for the election to hold in many centres’.
Aside that, they alleged that one of their supporters was shot dead and another one sustained injuries as a result of the gunshots at some voting centers by security operatives.
They, therefore, appealed to the party’s national headquarters to dissolve the electoral committee and form a new one that will organise an exercise that could be accepted by all the contestants.
