Members of Benue State Assembly on Tuesday impeached the speaker, Terkibir Ikyange and two other principal officers.
Others impeached are; deputy speaker, James Okefe and majority leader, Benjamin Adayin.
Twenty-two out of the thirty members of the assembly convened to impeach the speaker and two other principal officers within ten minutes.
The house had on 10th of July adjourned sitting to 15th of August only for the 22 members to reconvene on Tuesday to impeach the three principal officers.
The lawmakers who reconvened on emergency session accused the Speaker of abuse of office and high handedness.
During the ten minutes session, the members elected Hon Titus Ubah, representing Vandeikya Kyan constituency as the new Speaker, Johnson Egli Ahubi ( Otukpo/Akpa) was elected Deputy Speaker while Avine Agbum (Makurdi South) was elected Majority Leader.
Two of the new principal officers are members of PDP while the speaker is an APC member.
The motion for the Impeachment of the speaker and other principal officers of the house was moved Mr. Richard Ujege, Konshisha state constituency and seconded by Mr. Anthony Ogbu(Ado state Constituency).
The new speaker while speaking to newsmen said that the former speaker was removed as a result of his high handedness and abuse of office.
While reminded of the vote of confidence earlier passed on the former speaker, the new speaker said that some members were only carried away but have realized and decided to act.
