Four armed militants wrecked havoc in Tehran on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of seven Iranians, including a security guard of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). At least 16 people have also been injured due to the attack.
While three militants stormed the Iranian parliament and opened fire inside the building, shooting also occurred at the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran where a fourth fighter detonated a suicide belt.
A hostage situation is now unfolding in the Iranian parliament where assailants wielding Kalashnikov rifles are on the loose. One militant has been arrested in the parliament hall thus far, leaving two to be apprehended. Pictures from the scene, including some of the militants peeking out of windows at the parliament:
Nevertheless, Iranian security forces have the situation under control and contained for now. No group has taken responsibility for the attack yet – the prime suspects are said to be Jundullah, Jaish Ul-Adl, ISIS or Kurdish separatists.
