Tragedy struck in early Thursday morning day as fire gutted a set of shops in Surulere area, killing a mother, three children and destroyed millions of naira worth of properties. The father sustained degrees of injuries.
The tragic incident occurred at about 2:38 am at B23 Ogunleye Street off Adekunle Kuye Street, Kilo Bus Stop Surulere and left the residents in the mourning mood. They were caught in the fire while sleeping in one of the shops affected by the fire.
Although the cause of the fire which started around 2:38am could not be ascertained, New Telegraph learnt that the fire affected four shops and a family which consists of the father, mother and three children. The mother and the children died while the fathered sustained severe injuries.
The mother was identified as Hope, and the three children: Female- Chukwuka, 9, Male- Nonso 7, and Male- Ugochukwu,6. While the father was identified as Ignacious. The family was said to have been residing in one of the shops used for laundry services.
Speaking with New Telegraph, the General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Mr Tiamiyu Adesina, confirmed that the agency’s emergency response team received a distress call via the emergency number and swung into action.
