Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has described those accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of planning to Islamise Nigeria as the enemy of the country.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the Osinbajo said that President Muhammadu Buhari does not have any Islamisation agenda for the country, just as he declared that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is not a Muslim political party as being insinuated by the opposition.
We gathered that the number two citizen said that the APC is a political party that has every well-meaning and right thinking Nigerians irrespective of ethnoreligious affiliation.
The Vice President who was in the company of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, were among many high government functionaries that attended the flagging-off ceremony of the governorship campaign of the Gombe state APC gubernatorial candidate, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya held in Kaltungo on Thursday, January 11.
It was reported that both Yemi Osinbajo and Boss Mustapha particularly used the occasion to tell the mammoth crowd that gathered at the Olusegun Obasanjo Township Stadium in Kaltungo, that the APC is not a Muslim party and that President Muhammadu Buhari has no intention of Islamising Nigeria.
Osinbajo told the crowded APC supporters that the APC is a party for everybody, as such, they should not be deceived that it has an Islamic agenda or a terrorist party declaring that he is not only a Christian but a pastor who has worked very well with President Muhammadu Buhari whom he described as a very honest and sincere person.
While calling on the people of the state to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari to continue as president of the country and Inuwa Yahaya as the state governor, Professor Yemi Osinbajo said that a vote for APC at all levels is a vote that would take the nation to the next level if the party wins.
On his part, Mustapha said that if the APC were a Muslim party, he would not have been part of the government and holding a very sensitive position as the chief scribe of the country.
He went on to name many other Christians holding positions in the government to include minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu; CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele; CBN deputy governor, Edward Adamu who is also an indigene of Kaltungo.
In his own speech, the Gombe state APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, said that the people of Gombe state and especially Gombe South have suffered greatly in the hands of PDP which was the reason why they have rejected the PDP.
“That is why they have come out in their numbers to show their loyalty and support for APC”, Inuwa stated.
The gathering which could be described as a gathering of who is who in the northeast had the presence of APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who was represented by the deputy national chairman, northeast zone, Mustapha Salisu.
Other APC stalwarts who graced the occasion were the governors of Adamawa and Bauchi, Senator Jibrila Bindow and Mohammed Abubakar respectively as well as, former PDP national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, Senator Ali Ndume, all the nine governorship contestants during the party’s primaries among many others.
Meanwhile, we had previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari said that no candidate or any political party would stop him from winning the February 16 presidential election.
It was reported that the president said he was sure of winning the February 16 presidential election.
