It’s believed the attacker used their vehicle, a Home Depot rental truck, to strike pedestrians and cyclists on a bikepath before exiting the vehicle and shooting at bystanders.
Reports indicate that police already have a suspect in custody related to the incident and around five more people are believed to be injured. Police said they shot the suspect, who was taken to a hospital afterward. They do not believe there are additional threats.
ABC7 Eyewitness News is reporting that the incident, which took place near the West Side Highway, happened just after 3 p.m. and began as an incident between motorists, though CNN reports that terrorism is being considered as part of the investigation as well.
