The Lagos State Police Command on has arraigned an ex-forceman, Ameh Ameh, before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for impersonation and illegal possession of an Army uniform.
Ameh was arraigned on Friday before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momoh, told the court that the defendant was an ex-force man but had been dismissed from the force years ago.
According to Momoh, the 45-year-old had been extorting people while disguising as a military man in the Berger area of the state before he was arrested.
The prosecutor said the offence was punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
The charge read, “That you, Ameh Ameh on August 12, 2023, at Berger, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District did commit felony to wit: impersonation and unlawful possession of Army uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Olatunbosun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible surety in like sum and adjourned the case till November 13, 2023, for mention.
