A security guard of a building in the Zeta I colony of greater Noida allegedly barged into the flat of an engineering student and tried to rape her late on Friday night. This is the second such incident reported from the area within a week, raising questions about the safety of women in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Reportedly, the girl lived alone in the flat. The guard was identified as Raj Kumar, 26, a resident of Hathras. He was drunk at the time of the incident. The victim immediately raised an alarm, following which the neighbours gathered on the spot on the 11th floor and the guard fled.
A PCR call was made around 10.30 pm. The police then picked up the brother of the accused, who also works as a security guard in the same building. “We covered the entire society, so that he could not escape. The locals were also searching for him. After two hours, the accused was finally found in a bathroom of a vacant flat and was arrested,” Maneesh Saxena, SHO, Surajpur, said.
According to the police, Kumar admitted that he was drunk at the time of the incident. “We have filed an FIR under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 457 and 376,” Saxena said.
Earlier this week, a 35-year-old woman was gang-raped in a moving car and later dumped in the Kasna area of Greater Noida.
