Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has approved the appointment of Maj. Tajudeen Awe (retd.) as the new coordinator of the state’s grazing management programme.
A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Yinka Oyebode, said that Awe’s appointment took immediate effect.
It added that “the new coordinator has the mandate to reorganise and reposition the agency for optimum performance.”
The appointment followed the indefinite suspension of the erstwhile coordinator, Mr Sola Durodola, barely 48 hours after the former anti-grazing boss said the state government would soon begin registration of herdsmen in the state as part of efforts to curtail clashes.
Durodola was suspended on Monday by the state government.
The state government had through the Commissioner for Information, Muyiwa Olumilua, on Monday refuted news making the rounds in the state that plans were on to register herdsmen in the state.
Olumilua described the said news as “fake and irresponsible and does not represent the plans of the Dr Kayode Fayemi administration, neither does it have the approval of the governor.”
The commissioner had in a statement from his ministry, stated that “such news could create unnecessary tension or suspicion among innocent residents of the state.”
He said, “A law regulating activities of herders and farmers is already in place, hence the need to refute any form of duplicity that could cause confusion.”
Olumilua urged people of the state to continue their legitimate business without any form of apprehension.
