Mr Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, revealed in a statement that the agency received an emergency call at 12:27 a.m.
from one Mr Adelola, alerting them to the blaze. In response, fire service personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the fire had already affected multiple rows of shops and container shops at the Moniya Garage, located at Oja Agbe, Ibadan.
Akinyinka noted that the agency’s team, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Oyedeji, quickly went to work and managed to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to additional shops and surrounding properties.
“Although no lives were lost, the fire caused extensive damage, destroying valuable properties worth millions of Naira,” Akinyinka said.
Fortunately, the swift intervention of the fire services ensured that the damage was contained, and no casualties were reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire revealed that it was likely due to electrical appliances being plugged in and left unattended.
Akinyinka advised residents of Oyo State to handle electrical devices with care and to always turn them off when not in use to prevent fire outbreaks.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for vigilance, particularly in commercial areas like Moniya Garage, where the potential for widespread damage is high.
