These are the first pictures of a husband and wife who were found dead in separate addresses this morning in what police believe is a grim murder-suicide.
Officers found the body of James Barnes, 30, early this morning and went to the house he shared with his wife Amy twenty miles away to find her murdered body.
And just hours before he died, James, nicknamed Bucky after the Captain America character, posted a picture of the couple’s wedding in May 2014.
The pair have lived at the £224,000 semi in Rednal, Birmingham, for the last five years, where neighbours described them as a “lovely couple”.
Police arrived at the house at 1am to find 32 year old Amy’s body.
An anonymous neighbour said: “They always seemed like a lovely, young couple.
“We heard the traffic down the road this morning and thought something bad must of happen but we never thought this.
“It’s was about 1am and we woke up to see two large police vans, two ambulances and several police cars. It’s just so tragic.”
Officers had first been alerted by paramedics just after midnight when James took his life in the garden of his parents Vivian and Robert’s £419,000 home.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “At this early stage it’s understood the woman was murdered before the man took his own life in the garden of the Streetly address.
“Detectives are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
“Forensic post mortems will take place in due course on the deceased who were both aged in their 30s.
“Both areas have been cordoned off while enquiries continue to establish the circumstances that led to their deaths.”
A neighbour at the house in Linforth Drive, Streetly said: “The emergency services have been here through the night. We heard a commotion in the night.
“We know the owners to say hello to.
“They are really nice neighbours but we didn’t know them very well.
“The wife wasn’t very well at all. I’ve only seen her once.”
Both James and Amy had posted pictures of their wedding on Facebook.
Describing one photo showing the bride and bridesmaids, James, 30, wrote: “They all looked perfect, even better than I had imagined in the planning.
“And of course my bride, well she had me spooked and dreading what she had as she threw me off the scent of what she had got, but when I had a sneaky look over my shoulder as she turned the corner down the aisle in the church… she took my breathe away, I had to focus and look towards the altar, turned to my brother and said, ‘bro, she’s beautiful’. Absolutely stunning.”
Friend Caz Goodwill wrote on James’ last post: “My heart goes out to you, James.”
A group of four friends came to lay flowers at the scene in Rednal whilst holding back tears.
One friend said: “It’s just so shocking.
“It’s not for us to talk about, it’s for the family to say.”
James, grew up in Streetly and attended Streetly School before studying Graphic Design at nearby Sutton Coldfield College.
He went onto get a BA Computer Games and Modelling and Animation at University of Derby.
Amy’s mother Val Shimell, 68, who lives just a mile from their home, broke down in tears when asked about her daughter today.
Being comforted by Amy’s sister, other family and a police liason officer, said: “I’m sorry I just can’t say anything.”
Amy is believed to have worked at the neonatal unit in Birmingham Women’s Hospital for several years.
The hospital refused to comment on whether Amy was a member of staff there.
