Five persons reportedly died while no fewer than 14 others were injured in two separate road crashes which occurred in different parts of Ogun State on Tuesday.
The first road crash occurred at Alakara, Oke Odan, along Owode-Idiroko Road and it reportedly claimed four lives.
The accident involved a Ford bus carrying 18 passengers and a Cabster van with two passengers.
The driver of the Ford bus, with the number plate KSF 01 XC, reportedly engaged in wrongful overtaking at a bend.
Our correspondent learnt that the bus consequently had a head-on collision with the oncoming Cabster van, with the number plate LSD 491 XQ, which was on its own lane.
The bus, our correspondent gathered, was travelling from Idiroko to Sango-Ota.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said four passengers died, including the driver, while the other passengers suffered varying degrees of injury.
He said, “Those who died in the bus, according to a report from our operatives who went to the scene, were four. They were three females and one male.
“Their corpses have been deposited in the General Hospital, Ilaro, in the Yewa South Local Government Area, while those who were injured are receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Idiroko.”
The second road crash, according to Akinbiyi, occurred at Olorunpodo, along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway and involved a Honda Civic and a truck.
The car, with the number plate, CW 23 ENU, was reportedly conveying three passengers to a destination when a speeding truck hit it, killing one of the occupants of the car.
Akinbiyi said the driver of the truck sped off after the incident, while two other occupants of the car, who sustained injuries, were rushed to a private hospital at Olorunpodo, for treatment.
