In the era where good governance is the clamour of the majority, some group of friends had taken it upon themselves to task the newly appointed Special Advisers on Education, Housing and Deputy Chief Press Secretary on how best a synergy could be formed in ensuring smooth transition for the newly elected executive governor of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The trio were Barr. Wahab, Toke Benson-Awoyinka and Gboyega Akosile respectively.
The celebrated comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, who was the MC at the private gathering, explained the purpose of the get together that even though governance is often seen as a thankless job, it was meant to appreciate them and call their attention to the expectations of Lagosians early before they get busy.
As the friends of the appointees took turn to appreciate them, Seun Oloketuyi, one of the brain behind the meet, told the gathering that the trio were well known to him over the years and he was confident in their abilities to perform.
“Sanwo-Olu’s Lagos Executive Council is composed of trusted professionals,” Oloketuyi said, “And I’m sure they would perform.”
According to Teju Ajayi, he believed Lagosians have high hopes in this administration and he expected the appointees to take their tasks to heart. “The expectations from government are high and many are yet to be met.”
He, therefore, advised that the government should look into the issue of collapse buildings and Lagos Rail Mass Transit to ease the ever increasing burden of transportation and also fast track completion as the project has been undone for too long.
Ajayi also call the attention of the government to the provision of truly affordable housing for the masses as the so called low cost housing were not really within the reach of an average man.
“I would also want to encourage Barr. Wahab to be more focused on education and ensure that the children of have-nots are well taken care of,” he concluded.
In his response, Barr. Tokunbo Wahab promised of his steadfastness with the people and that Sanwo-Olu administration would deliver.

“I’m already getting feedback from the people about the state of things and I can assure you the government is always working round the clock to attend to problems placed before it.”
Wahab then advised Nigerians not to hold back punches whenever the needs arises but should always talk to them and the government would respond. In the same breath sought the support and understanding of Lagosians as they go about carrying out the tasks set before them.
“Don’t spare us. Either good and bad, we want to hear your from you, and with 1400days remaining in this administration, we would make you proud,” Barr. Wahab.
In her own remark, Benson-Awoyinka said that she always felt sad whenever she visited Lagos Island and what it has become. “I want to see a new Lagos. The previous administration tried, but despite that, this government is looking into many projects that have been abandoned.
“One of our achievements so far is that of a 500 new homes that would be going to the beneficiaries this week as Sanwo Olu is bent on delivering 10,000 homes per year.”
Gboyega Akosile on his part thanked the gathering for celebrating him and his colleagues, while assuring his friends of Sanwo Olu’s readiness in moving the state in the right direction. “His Excellency, with the vision he has for Lagos State, is perhaps the best thing to have happened to us in the last 20years.
“He is not interested in making noise about his achievements so far as 100 days in office draw near. The most important thing to him is to show the people how he is working in achieving great strides for the state. As we speak, grants would be distributed to over 1000 people while 500 homes would enter the market this coming week.”
