Governor Umaru Almakura of Nasarawa State has presented the staff of office to the 17th Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Dauda Bage.
Speaking during the occasion, the Governor said, “The state government wants the Emir to govern the people properly and advance the harmonious development of the entire state. The state has since been operating with traditional institutions in all its affairs towards peace building across the state.”
In his acceptance speech, the new Emir who is the 17th on the throne said, “The people of Nasarawa State are all related in one way or the other through inter marriages for centuries past, this is the reason for the peace and it is the envy of people from near and far. My elder brother, the late Emir, Alhaji Isa Mustapha Agwai I, contributed immensely in enhancing peace and development of the emirate, the local government, the state and the nation at large, and we are praying for the repose of his soul in Aljanna Firdaus, amin.”
In his remarks, the chairman of Lafia Local Government, Alhaji Aminu Muazu Maifata said, “I praise the people of the Emirate, the local government and the state for welcoming the many dignitaries who graced the occasion, we are grateful for the dignitaries who graced the occasion like the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Mustapah Umari Garbai Elkanemi, Emirs and Chiefs of Nasarawa, Nasarawa Traditional Council of Chiefs among others.”
