A Libyan returnee, Williams Angel Nwakama, has said the volume of atrocities that happen in the Sahara Desert could be checkmated with foreign support.
The River State-born Nwakama who travelled to Libya through the desert had a firsthand experience of what happens to travellers along the desert route.
He said if he could get support from the European Union (EU) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), all the evil activities in the desert would be a thing of the past.
He spoke to Daily Sun in Lagos at a reintegration training programme organised for the Libyan returnees by the Federal Government in collaboration with the EU and IOM.
“We need a lot of work to stop what is happening in the desert. If EU and IOM can support me, it will stop. Many of our brothers come down to Nigeria to organise large numbers of people and deceive them that they are taking them to Europe. They have made so much money doing this dirty business and they would bring them to the desert and sell them off. If I can get EU and IOM support, such things will stop,” he said.
