Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has said citizens do not appreciate some policies of government as a result of their poor knowledge of such policies, saying it is attributable to lack of national orientation.
According to the governor, there is a need to galvanize the requisite support required to drive government policies, noting that despite various micro and macro policy interventions by the government, the citizenry were not even aware.
The Governor while receiving in audience on Tuesday, the Abia State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Ngozi Okechukwu, and her Management Team to Government House, Umuahia called for adequate support for the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to form the fulcrum that would drive government policies and programs in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, the governor stressed the need for government at all levels to begin to mainstream the importance of national orientation in the people’s daily living.
The statement partly read, “According to the Governor, the greatest impact of the National Orientation Agency would be to help shape the direction of the nation. He said that on his part, his administration would do its best to support the National Orientation Agency in the State and pledged to rise to the demands of the office of the Grand Patron of the agency bestowed on him and help confront the challenge of indiscipline in the State. He stressed the need for all to get back to the era of discipline and ensure all forms of indiscipline by the citizenry are brought to an end.
“Earlier, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Abia State, Dr. Ngozi Okechukwu disclosed that the agency is set to reposition the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) in the State. The Director, who said that one of the aims of their visit was to decorate the Governor as the Grand Patron of National Orientation Agency in the State revealed that the revamping of the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade aims to support the fight against indiscipline and corruption.
“She noted that the ills which bedeviled the nation during the Buhari /Idiagbo Military era are even worsening, adding that repositioning of the War Against Indiscipline Brigade will revamp vigilance in the LGAs and boost security. She commended the Governor for the great insight about the need to empower youths, noting that youths’ inclusiveness in government is imperative.
“Highlights of the event was decoration of the Governor as the Grand Patron of National Orientation Agency in the State.
“Secretary to Government, Barrister Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr ACB Agbazuere and other top officials of the State Government were present at the event which held at the Banqeut Hall of the Government House Umuahia.”
