Fighting for his paternal rights.
As we previously reported, Jennifer Hudson fans were left shocked after it was revealed that the Oscar winner and her fiancé, David Otunga, have called it quits on their 10-year relationship. The situation became more concerning when we learned Miz Hudson has also received a “protective order” against the former pro wrestler.

At the time, it was said Jennifer’s “actions [were] solely taken in the best interest of their son [David Daniel Otunga Jr].” Uh oh.
Unsurprisingly, Otunga has since come forward to share his side of this familial drama. Speaking on David’s behalf, his attorney — named Tracy M. Rizzo — defended in a statement:
“David Otunga has been trying to negotiate the terms of an amicable parenting agreement with Ms. Hudson for several weeks now… However, when it became apparent to Ms. Hudson that Mr. Otunga would be the parent granted residential care of the child, as a result of Mr. Otunga being the child’s primary caregiver while Ms. Hudson pursues her career all over the world, Ms. Hudson decided to file a meritless Petition for Order of Protection in an effort to gain an unfair advantage in the custody dispute.”
So, per David’s team, JHud made up a safety concern as she thought she’d lose primary care of her kid?? That’s a serious accusation to make.
Rizzo continued:
“As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in the WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son, and it is unfortunate, especially in today’s climate, that she would feel the need to make these false allegations against him. Mr. Otunga looks forward to his day in court and in being awarded the residential care of the parties’ only child.”
Uuuh, is it just us, or does this lawyer seem salty AF?? We mean, Rizzo is coming for The Voice judge — HARD!!
David first proposed to Hudson back in September 2008 after less than a year of dating. The twosome then welcomed their son in August 2009. Although years continued to go by, the pair never made it to the altar.
Back in April, the American Idol alum told Ellen DeGeneres she was “not in a rush” when it came to getting married and noted that David wasn’t “going nowhere.”
Hopefully, for David Jr.’s sake, these two can find an amicable arrangement sometime in the future.
