Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have arrested pro-democracy activist and the convener of #RevolutionNow Protests, Omoyele Sowore.
It was gathered that Sowore was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday.
Sowore posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 a.m. with an eyewitness confirming that his phone was forcefully taken from him.
The tweet read, “DSS invades Sowore’s”.
He also tweeted ” Ja p”, confirming his phone must have been seized while trying to raise the alarm about his arrest.
His arrest and detention are not unconnected to #RevolutionNow, a series of planned protests against bad governance in Nigeria scheduled for August 5, 2019.
Recall the SaharaReporter’s publisher plastered some graffitis in Lagos streets Thursday in ongoing advocacy for people’s participation in the planned August 5, ‘Days of Rage’ revolution rally across the country.
According to presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 23 election, “#RevolutionNow is movement of Nigerian youths committed to fighting for freedom and just in exercise of right to freedom of expression and freedom of association.
While scores of people who are not clear about what the intended outcome of the revolution protest is, continue to show scepticism, many Nigerians including high-end politicians and global human rights organizations like Amnesty International have shown support for the movement.
Others are also willing to join in the protest against the Nigerian government.
