Kaduna Assembly dismisses claims of amending the Local Government Election Law before the polls, ensuring a transparent election process.
The Kaduna State House of Assembly denies plans to amend the Local Government Election Law, despite concerns raised by the PDP about the upcoming elections.
The Kaduna State House of Assembly has rejected allegations of planning to amend the state’s Local Government Election Law ahead of the upcoming local council elections on 19 October 2024.

The clarification was issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Henry Marah, during a press briefing on Wednesday in Kaduna.
He affirmed that no such amendment was included in the order paper for the Assembly’s session on 9 October.
The clarification follows concerns from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which claimed that the Assembly was secretly working to amend the 2024 Kaduna State Local Government Election Law just days before the election.
PDP state chairman, Edward Masha, criticised the alleged amendment as a deliberate attempt to manipulate the electoral process.
According to Masha, the proposed changes would alter key provisions concerning the declaration of election results and the appointment of collation officers.
Masha stressed that the PDP would resist any efforts to undermine the integrity of the election, calling on the Governor, security agencies, and the public to ensure a peaceful, transparent election.
“Local government elections are vital to our democracy, and we will not tolerate any form of manipulation,” Masha said, referencing specific sections of the law that safeguard transparency.
However, Marah dismissed these claims, stating, “The House has not discussed or considered any amendments related to the electoral law. The accusations are baseless.
” He further explained that the Assembly had removed electronic voting machines earlier in the year due to logistical challenges, but that decision was unrelated to any recent amendments.
The House reassured the public that it remains committed to the welfare of the people of Kaduna and operates independently from the state government.
