King Charles III celebrates his 76th birthday on Thursday, still undergoing cancer treatment but maintaining his commitment to royal duties despite a challenging year.
King Charles III turns 76 on Thursday, continuing to navigate cancer treatment while remaining deeply committed to his royal duties.
Despite a difficult year, which his son Prince William described as “brutal,” Charles’s passion for his constitutional role has remained unwavering.

The King paused his royal duties in February after being diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer. However, by the end of April, he returned to his work, with his wife, Queen Camilla, often remarking on his relentless drive to continue despite his health challenges.
In October, the royal couple resumed international travel, with Charles temporarily suspending his treatment for visits to Australia and Samoa for a Commonwealth heads of government meeting.
Close sources reported that the King returned “invigorated” from the trip, and he is expected to resume a “normal” schedule of overseas engagements next year.
Upon ascending to the throne in September 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Charles made a solemn vow to serve as monarch for as long as “God grants” him.
Since then, he has worked diligently to fulfill his duties, including leading the nation in remembrance at the Cenotaph memorial on Remembrance Sunday, attending a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, and hosting various diplomatic events.
His 76th birthday will be marked by traditional ceremonial gun salutes, but there will be no day off for the King. Instead, he will visit a food redistribution centre in south London, part of his “Coronation Food Project,” which aims to reduce food waste and support those in need.
The past 12 months have been particularly challenging for the royal family, not only due to the King’s health issues but also ongoing tensions with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan.
Furthermore, there have been troubling reports about the finances of both Charles and William, and the controversial issue of slavery reparations during the Commonwealth summit.
In addition to Charles’s health, another family member, Catherine, Princess of Wales, also underwent cancer treatment this year, which she publicly announced in March. Fortunately, Catherine has completed her chemotherapy, and she has returned to royal duties.
Prince William, speaking on the emotional toll on the family, expressed pride in his father and wife, calling the past year “probably the hardest year in my life” while acknowledging the strength they have shown.
Despite these personal and public challenges, King Charles continues to fulfill his royal obligations with resilience, leading his family through turbulent times while focusing on his environmental advocacy and public service.
