The embattled lawmaker, representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, was welcomed by hundreds of enthusiastic supporters from the five local government areas of Kogi Central, who gathered early in Ihima, Okehi LGA, to celebrate her arrival.

The event took a dramatic turn as Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived in a white helicopter, sending the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and excitement.
Despite the government’s strict measures, including the imposition of a curfew in Okehi LGA and warnings from the police, the senator maintained that her visit was not a political rally, but rather a personal gesture to celebrate the Sallah holiday with her constituents.
Addressing the jubilant crowd, Akpoti-Uduaghan boldly dismissed the government’s ban on rallies, insisting she was simply participating in the celebration of the festive season.
“Yesterday, we heard on the news that rallies and gatherings would not be allowed, that roads would be blocked, and convoys leading into the state would not be allowed.
I knew that we were the targets. But then I said, this is not political season, this is not campaign time,” she told the crowd.
The senator further explained, “We are not having a rally. This is just me, the Senator representing Kogi Central, coming down to her people to celebrate this festive time – the Sallah with you, and there is nothing wrong with that.”
She went on to assert, “I am breaking no law. This is Nigeria. We have the right to be free, to express our choice in gatherings and celebrations.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s homecoming occurred in the midst of political tensions and accusations of persecution. She has repeatedly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello of orchestrating security threats against her.
Her suspension from the Senate, following a controversial sexual harassment accusation involving Akpabio, has only heightened the political pressure she faces. Additionally, a recall process against the senator is currently underway.
Despite the challenges, her supporters remain steadfast, rallying behind her as she continues to challenge both local and national political dynamics.
