The Lagos State Police Command said that it would prosecute no fewer than 14 persons arrested in multiple raids across the state for various offences.
The police disclosed this in a post shared on its Facebook page (@Rapid Response) on Saturday.
According to the police, 13 of the suspects were arrested during a raid of some dark spots in the Ikotun area of the state while one of the suspects, Muhammed Yaro, was arrested while trying to cause unrest in the Mushin area of the state.
The statement read in part, “Around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, RRS operatives responding to a violent crisis in Idi Araba, Mushin arrested Muhammed Yaro (25), while wielding a machete and hammer as others fled the scene on sighting the police.
“The same day, at about 11:00 pm, our operatives combing suspected flashpoints in Dopemu, Egbeda, Idimu, Council Roundabout, Ikotun, and environs, arrested 31 suspects.
“Eighteen of the suspects were released to their relatives after a thorough screening was carried out by the Commander of the squad, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi.”
The statement further stated that the suspects would be charged in court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
“Thirteen suspects are to be charged to court for prosecution in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade,” the statement concluded.
It was earlier reported that the Lagos State Police Command arrested a suspected cult leader whose gang attempted to forcefully take over a tricycle (Keke Marwa) park in the Fadeyi area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the newsmen.
Hundeyin disclosed that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday by operatives attached to the Onipanu Police Division.
He added that one locally made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered during the arrest.
