The Nigeria Football Federation, the League Management Company and Enyimba FC have mourned the death of Kano Pillars defender, Chinedu Udoji who passed on following an auto accident in Kano on Sunday night.
Udoji who won the man-of-the-match following their 1-1 draw in matchday nine fixtures against his former club, Enyimba, was on his way back to the Kano Pillars club house after visiting his former Enyimba teammates at their hotel when the accident occurred on Sunday.
Reacting after the sad incident the NFF wrote on their official twitter handle. “The demise of @pillarsfc defender Chinedu Udoji comes as a rude shock to us this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and club. May his soul rest in peace.”
In the same vein, the LMC also expressed their sadness over the defender’s death. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of NPFL’s finest defenders. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chinedu Udoji’s family, Kano Pillars & #NPFL clubs,” the LMC wrote.
Also Udoji’s former club, Enyimba commiserated with We are distraught at the news of the passing of club legend and former captain, Chinedu Udoji. Our commiserations are with his family at this time.
The 28-year-old centre-back joined Pillars last season after spending seven years with the Peoples’ Elephant joining them from FC Abuja in 2012.
