Members of the Nigerian high society on Saturday gathered in their numbers for the wedding of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Sir. Mike Okiro’s son, Uche to his heartthrob, Chinwendu.
First port of call for guests at the classy wedding was Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro Cathedral Garki, Abuja. There, the handsome couple were joined in holy matrimony by a team of eight priests, led by Cardinal John Onaiyekan and the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Abuja, Bishop Anselm Umoren.
The wedding train soon moved to the M&M Event Centre Garki, where veteran comedian Alarm Blow handled proceedings. Okiro, who is currently the chairman of the Police Service Commission in his characteristic amicable manner, was spotted going round tables, greeting and welcoming guests.
The high octane ceremony started with a moment of silence in honor of the late mother of the groom, Hera. The groom’s mother died in 2012 at the age of 61.
Representative of the chairman of wedding party, Senator George Akume in his welcome address, advised the groom to love his wife and always put family first. Soon after, the couple who danced into the venue in a hail of Naira notes sprayed by their friends, cut their blue and silver cake. The cutting of the cake was supervised by the mother of day, former deputy governor of Plateau State, Dame Pauline Tallen.
There was a lot to pick from an array of assorted drinks and fine cuisine. Even as guests mingled with a long list of dignitaries, including, former governor of Rivers State Dr. Peter Odili and his wife Justice Mary Odili, former minister of Aviation, Alabo Graham-Douglas, former chairman of Police Service Commission, Samuel Okeke and famous cop, DCP Abba Kyari. Former IGP Solomon Arase was present at the church.
