MURIC warns federal agents against intimidating ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, stating it could damage the Tinubu administration’s image
The **Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)** has cautioned agents of the Nigerian federal government against any form of intimidation towards **Nasir El-Rufai**, the immediate past governor of **Kaduna State**.
The warning was issued in a statement on Wednesday by **Professor Ishaq Akintola**, Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, amid growing tensions between El-Rufai and some influential figures within **Aso Rock**.

El-Rufai recently alleged that there were **plans to arrest him** over his perceived closeness with opposition leaders ahead of the next general elections.
His criticisms of the **President Bola Tinubu** administration have reportedly led to a clash with certain political figures within the presidency.
In response to these developments, MURIC advised the federal government to avoid any action that could damage its reputation.
**“Considering the immense contribution of former Governor El-Rufai to the victory of the ruling party at the 2023 general elections, as well as the big role played by him in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu, we would like to advise the federal government against intimidating him if the rumour is true,”** the statement read.
The organisation further warned that any move against El-Rufai would **stain Tinubu’s democratic credentials** and portray his administration as one that suppresses dissenting voices.
**“On the contrary, allowing El-Rufai to move freely in and out of the country will continue to earn the government international respect,”** MURIC stated.
