Muslim leaders in Rivers State call for the reinstatement of Governor Fubara’s authority, citing his effective leadership amid ongoing crisis
Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based groups in Rivers State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to restore the “full authority” of the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The leaders, who gathered for an Eid-el-Fitri Sallah visit at Fubara’s private residence in Port Harcourt on Monday, expressed their concern over the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state.

The call for Fubara’s reinstatement comes after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, suspending the governor, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the state lawmakers for an initial six-month period.
The suspension was prompted by the attack on the state’s oil pipeline and the ongoing political feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.
In response to the state of emergency, Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired naval vice admiral, was appointed and sworn in as the sole administrator for Rivers State.
However, during their visit, the Muslim leaders expressed their dismay at the decision and urged President Tinubu to reconsider the emergency rule and restore Fubara’s full powers as governor.
A statement from Fubara’s spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi, confirmed that the Muslim leaders voiced their unwavering support for the governor’s leadership.
The leaders emphasised that despite the crisis, Governor Fubara had been performing effectively and had shown resilience in managing the state’s affairs.
Nasir Uhor, speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah, declared that the state’s Muslim community stood firmly behind Governor Fubara.
He commended the governor’s inclusive approach to governance, highlighting his recognition of the Islamic faith and the importance of religious unity.
Uhor also reassured Fubara of their prayers and support as he navigates the current political challenges, reminding the governor of the Islamic belief that Allah rewards patience in the face of adversity.
The appeal for Fubara’s reinstatement adds to the growing political discourse in Rivers State, as citizens and political groups alike await the resolution of the state’s leadership crisis.
As the emergency rule continues, the pressure on President Tinubu to act in a manner that balances political stability with governance remains high.
