The Anambra state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a suspected notorious drug dealer, Chimezie Okoye, in Awka, the state capital.
Daily Trust reports that this was made known in a statement issued by the spokesman of the NDLEA in the state, Charles Odigie Efosa.
Efosa said Okoye, known as Don, operated around the “5” Decking area in Ifite Awka.
He said the suspect was arrested on May 25, with 6.5 grammes of methamphetamine and 3.3 kg of Cannabis Sativa (skunk) at his God of Grace Lodge “5” Decking in Awka.
He said the suspect would soon be charged to court for prosecution.
Also, the NDLEA in Kaduna state has seized Tramadol drugs worth over N45 million at Shaikh Gumi Market in the state.
The commander of the agency in the state, Bala Fage, said the Tramadol, which was in 950,000 tablets, was brought in from Onitsha in Anambra state.
Meanwhile, we previously reported that President Buhari said the sweeping offensive against drug trafficking will be sustained, urging Nigerians in diaspora to always provide information that will help the government to curb the menace.
President Buhari made the assurance while receiving leaders of Nigerian Community in Saudi Arabia at the end of his Umrah trip on Tuesday, May 21.
President Buhari stressed the need to intensify efforts toward exposing those involved in drug trafficking and illegal trade in the country, assuring that appropriate actions would be taken.
He said the recent exposure of a network of drug dealers operating at one of Nigeria’s international airports, who were discovered to be tagging bags filled with drugs in the name of innocent passengers, called for expansion of searchlights.
