Ogonis in diaspora call on President Tinubu to intervene in Rivers State’s political crisis, urging action against Nyesom Wike’s interference in governance.
Ogonis in diaspora, operating under the aegis of the Ogonis in Diaspora Organisation, have urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action in resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
They insist that the prolonged conflict is hampering development and destabilising the region, particularly under the current administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In an open letter addressed to the President, the organisation expressed concern over Tinubu’s silence, which they believe has emboldened the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to allegedly interfere in state governance.
Kii criticised Wike’s actions, stating that they have led to insecurity, disrupted economic activities, and driven investors away from the state.
He highlighted the stark contrast between Wike and his predecessors, who, he argued, allowed their successors to govern without interference.
“We, the Ogonis in Diaspora Organisation, write to express our profound disappointment and concern over your continued silence on the deepening political crisis rocking Rivers State.
Your inaction, Mr. President, has emboldened Chief Nyesom Wike’s relentless attempts to destabilise the state, exploiting state instruments for personal gain,” Kii’s letter stated.
He further elaborated that Wike’s alleged interference is undermining Governor Fubara’s authority and stifling progress in the state.
Comparing Wike’s leadership to previous governors such as Dr. Peter Odili, Celestine Omehia, and Rotimi Amaechi, Kii pointed out that these former governors peacefully transitioned power, allowing Rivers State to prosper after their tenures.
The Ogonis in diaspora are calling on President Tinubu to address this issue by intervening directly, urging him to call Wike to order and stop further interference in the governance of Rivers State.
Kii also urged the President to support the state government in restoring law and order, investigating the destruction of lives and properties, and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.
He concluded by appealing for peace, stability, and good governance in Rivers State, stressing the importance of the President’s prompt action in resolving the crisis.
“The Ogoni people and all Rivers State citizens demand peace, stability, and good governance. We expect your prompt action to address this crisis. Your leadership can shape Nigeria’s future, and we implore you to act decisively,” the letter concluded.
